More than 30 Amur tiger cubs have been born since the beginning of the year at the breeding center for these predators in the city of Harbin in the Chinese province of Heilongjiang, bordering Russia, Xinhua reports citing representatives of the center.
“It is expected that by the end of this year, a total of about 100 tiger cubs will be born,” said Liu Dan, deputy head of the Hengdaohezi center.
According to him, the peak breeding season for Amur tigers is in April-June.
The Amur tiger is one of the rarest predators on the planet. These cats are listed in the International Red Book. In Russia, they live in four regions: Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krais, Amur Oblast, and Jewish Autonomous Oblast. According to the results of a complete census, there are about 750 Amur tigers, including cubs.
